KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 – Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said today the Barisan Nasional (BN) was confident of winning almost all the 14 parliamentary seats and 40 of the 42 state seats in the state in the next general election.
In the last general election, in 2008, the BN lost to PKR in the parliamentary constituencies of Kuantan and Indera Mahkota and in the state constituencies of Triang and Tras (to the DAP), Beserah and Kuala Semantan (to PAS) and Tanah Rata (to an independent candidate).
The independent assemblyman, Ho Yip Kap, joined Gerakan, a BN component party, later.
Adnan said the BN had a 50-50 chance of winning one of the parliamentary seats, but he did not disclose its name.
“The key performance indicator of the prime minister (for Pahang in the 13th general election) is that we must win 14 (parliamentary seats). Right now, we are confident of winning 13, with a 50-50 chance in the remaining one,” he said after attending the signing of a memorandum of understanding on Facilitating Social Upliftment (FSU), here.
“If we can endear ourselves to the people more, God willing, we can capture all 14 (parliamentary seats),” he said.
He also said that the BN had a chance of winning Triang and Tras, the two stronghold constituencies of the DAP, but the coalition had to work harder to do so.
